Nutrition basics 101: #science 👩🔬⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Calories are made up 4 of macronutrients:
🥑FAT
🥔CARBOHYDRATE
🍤PROTEIN
🍷ALCOHOL
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🥑Fats have 9 calories per gram (of WEIGHT when measured)
🥔Carbs have 4 calories per gram
🍤Protein have 4 calories per gram
🍷Alcohol have 7 calories per gram (which is where the calories come from in our drinks).

—-Example using a nutrition label——
Philadelphia whipped cream cheese:
Calories = 50
Fat = 4g
Carb = 2g
Protein = 1g
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fat 4g X 9 calories = 36 calories
Carb 2g X 4 calories = 8 calories
Protein 1g X 4 calories = 4 calories
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
36 + 8 + 4 = 48 calories (most labels tend to round)

Macros > calories to lose weight bc:
✨Encourages a balance of the 3 health macros (fats, carbs and proteins).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨Encourages a healthier relationship with food since it is an understanding of how it helps or hurts our bodies.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨Allows us to understand a nutrition label, read a menu at a restaurant and choose better options for our health.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨Encourages us to feel more empowered with knowledge behind those choices.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨Encourages a higher protein diet (the MANY protein benefits will be explained tomorrow).
